Advancing Neurosurgery and Spine Care Together

now one team

For generations, patients and families have trusted Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates (CNSA) and Atrium Health to provide expert care for conditions of the brain, spine and peripheral nerves.

Now, we’re deepening our longstanding partnership to create the most comprehensive neurosurgery and spine program in the Greater Charlotte region. As one team, we’re making care more seamless, more complete and more advanced than ever before.

A New Era in Care

Our patients will continue receiving care from the same trusted providers, in the same convenient locations – now backed by the combined strength of Atrium Health and CNSA.

This means:

  • Seamless coordination across the full spectrum of spine and neurosurgical services
  • More cutting-edge technologies and innovative therapies
  • Stronger collaboration on clinical best practices that enhance outcomes
  • One unified team, delivering compassionate, high-quality care close to home

A Shared Legacy

CNSA is the largest neurosurgical practice in the U.S., and Atrium Health is part of Advocate Health, the nation’s third-largest nonprofit health system.

Together, we bring more than 85 years of collaboration and clinical leadership. Since 1940, our teams have worked side by side to deliver expert care and improve lives across the Charlotte region.

Committed to Excellence

The next chapter reinforces our joint commitment to advancing clinical excellence through initiatives such as:

  • SpineFirst – launched in 2021 to elevate spine care delivery and coordination
  • Carolina Center for Specialty Surgery – recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the “Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers” in 2025
  • The Carolinas Medical Center Neurological Surgery Residency Program – training the next generation of neurosurgical leaders

FAQs

Q:  Is CNSA becoming part of Atrium Health?

As part of an expanded partnership, CNSA clinics in Greater Charlotte and Greensboro are joining Atrium Health:

  • Greater Charlotte: On October 1, 2025, nearly 300 teammates at seven CNSA clinics in the Greater Charlotte area became part of Atrium Health. Patients continue to have access to more than 70 physicians and advanced practice providers at these clinics.
  • Greensboro: On May 1, 2026, more than 40 teammates at the CNSA clinic in Greensboro will join Atrium Health. Patients will continue to have access to 13 physicians and advanced practice providers at this clinic.

Across all locations, our team will work to ensure patients receive seamless, high-quality care.

Q:  What will change for patients?

Patients will continue to receive the high-quality care they expect, at the same locations and from the same trusted providers.

As part of this transition, the patient portal for CNSA patients in Greensboro and the Greater Charlotte area will move to MyAtriumHealth, making it easier to manage care in one place.

Patients will benefit from expanded access to care and services, close to home. This includes a strengthened partnership with Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital and Atrium Health Levine Children’s Brenner Children’s Hospital, innovative care connected to Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and a broad network of specialists and support services across Atrium Health.

Q:  What does this mean for CNSA’s relationship with other health systems?

Our relationships and care pathways with other health systems will remain unchanged.

We’ll continue operating at trusted partner hospitals, referrals will stay open, and patients and surgeons will still choose their surgery sites. Updated systems will help improve secure coordination across health systems.
