Practice Neurosurgeon Serves As Director On American Board Of Neurological Surgeons
Neurosurgeon Craig VanDerVeer, M.D., of Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates is currently serving as one of ten Directors on the American Board of Neurological Surgeons (ABNS). Each director serves a seven-year term. They are elected from the two neurosurgery societies, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS).

The function of the ABNS include developing and administering the tests that qualify a neurosurgeon to be board eligible and board certified. The ABNS can also remove certification credentials when warranted.

“As the only director on the board in private practice, my goal within the ABNS is to represent the private practitioner who performs the majority of the everyday workload provided to the community,” said VanDerVeer.

Since its inception, Dr. VanDerVeer has served as Director of the Neuroscience and Spine Institute at Carolinas Medical Center. He was a member of the CNS Executive Committee, and has served on numerous professional committees with the CNS and AANS.
