Biography

In the Greensboro market at Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates, Dr. Nundkumar specializes in Endovascular Neurosurgery, Cerebrovascular Disease, and individual conditions including Brain Aneurysms, Brain Tumors, Arteriovenous Malformations, Fistulas, and Spinal Malformations, in addition to degenerative spine disease, both cervical and lumbar disc diseases related to back and neck pain.

Dr. Nundkumar grew up in Flint, Michigan, where his dad practiced as an OB-GYN. He grew up watching his father model a career that revolved around patient care. For him, his father’s example meant that he always considered becoming a doctor himself.

“I watched my dad serve his patients, work hard, and provide for his family. I knew that when he was at work–many times for long hours, he was gone because he was bettering someone else’s quality of life. It inspired me to consider the same lifestyle and career to provide for my own family one day,” said Dr. Nundkumar.

For a period, Dr. Nundkumar considered an advanced degree in mathematics, but ultimately decided to pursue medicine and attended medical school. He knew that if he was going to become a doctor, he wanted to be a surgeon. While attending medical school, he quickly became interested in the field of neuroscience and neurosurgery.

Dr. Nundkumar chose Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates because their commitment to patient care and multidisciplinary team approach stood out. “Our physicians and team members are willing to help each other–because that is what is best for the patient,” he said. What differentiates the practice, according to Dr. Nundkumar, is that the range of providers are able to provide the full spectrum of treatment options for neuro and spine conditions, all in one place.

For example, if a patient comes to see Dr. Nundkumar for a condition such as a brain aneurysm, they receive care–start to finish from himself, because he can treat each individual case, no matter what treatment is needed. Dr. Nundkumar enjoys providing the full spectrum of care and having the knowledge to communicate to his patients their needed path of care, whether that’s surgery or endovascular treatment.

Dr. Nundkumar values building relationships with his patients and appreciates that while working at Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates, he is not only allowed to do that, but encouraged to spend the time necessary to treat each patient with an individualized care plan approach.

Dr. Nundkumar has two children, a son and a daughter. He met his wife at work, while she was serving as a neuro-ICU nurse! Even though he was used to the harsher winters in Michigan, he and his wife later moved to the Carolina region for the job opportunities—and the warmer winters! Dr. Nundkumar enjoys playing tennis (both regular and table tennis), golf, and the piano, which he has played for more than 20 years.
