Our Pediatric Neurosurgery Team Becomes Largest In The Carolinas
With The Addition Of Sarah Jernigan, MD, MPH
For decades, Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates has been committed to making a difference for infants and children in need of brain and spine care. Our pediatric neurosurgery team works closely with Levine Children’s Hospital to deliver advanced treatment of conditions such as vascular malformations, spasticity, brain tumors, spine disorders, hydrocephalus, epilepsy and more.
Very few independent neurosurgery practices in the country have made such an investment in pediatric neurosurgery expertise. The level of subspecialization within our pediatric neurosurgery team is very unique. That’s why patients and their families from across the country and around the world seek out our practice.
“Pediatric patients often have the most complex neurosurgical issues, and our team is equipped to handle them all,” said Scott Wait, MD. “We have neurosurgeons who specialize in minimally invasive techniques for pediatric patients, pediatric blood vessel disorders, pediatric epilepsy and pediatric hydrocephalus. We all work together to deliver the highest level of care for our patients.”
Our pediatric neurosurgeons are leaders in the field. The team includes fellowship-trained pediatric specialists, and the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Carolinas Medical Center.
Sarah Jernigan, MD, MPH, is the latest fellowship-trained pediatric neurosurgeon to join Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates. With the addition of Dr. Jernigan, the team of pediatric neurosurgeons at our practice is the largest in the Carolinas.
Dr. Jernigan specializes in diagnosing and treating children with brain tumors, hydrocephalus, spasticity, craniosynostosis, spina bifida and vascular disorders such as Moyamoya disease. For patients with congenital conditions like hydrocephalus, spasticity and spina bifida, Dr. Jernigan also provides a continuity of care as these patients age into adulthood.
