11.30.2023
We’re excited to announce that in addition to offering it at our Rock Hill office, Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates is now offering the LSVT BIG Program in Physical Therapy at our new Huntersville location!
Stephanie Johnson, PT, DPT, will serve patients with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions through this physical therapy program at the Huntersville office.
What is the LSVT BIG Program?
LSVT BIG is an intensive treatment program that trains patients with Parkinson’s Disease or other neurological conditions to use their body more normally. It involves four weeks of 16 sessions of physical therapy that are directed at symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, as well as gait training and training in functional skills personalized to the patient. The hour-long, one-on-one treatment sessions are designed to improve risk of falls, increase independence in daily activities, and create normalized amplitude of movement.

We asked Stephanie to share how she became interested in working with patients with Parkinson’s Disease and her goals for offering LSVT BIG therapy at CNSA’s Huntersville location.
Have you worked with patients with Parkinson's Disease before? How did you first start this work?
Yes! I first started working with patients who have Parkinson’s Disease that were referred to physical therapy for other complaints such as low back pain, neck pain, or other orthopedic conditions. Although treating the symptoms of their Parkinson’s disease was not the primary focus of their treatment plan, it would need to be considered when choosing appropriate interventions.
What made you interested in running the LSVT BIG Program at the Huntersville office?
Dr. Jung, a neurologist at CNSA, shared that he was interested in the program. I looked into it, and thought it would be a great addition to our physical therapy clinic and an additional resource that would offer a lot of benefit to many patients.
Why is this type of therapy so impactful for patients?
LSVT BIG can be very impactful because it focuses on individualized functional tasks and helps each patient individually work towards goals that are important to them and what they consider important for their quality of life.
What makes you the most excited about implementing the LSVT BIG program?
I am excited to offer another resource that can improve overall function and quality of life for people with Parkinson’s Disease, and that can help them to move and be as active as they can be.
If you or anyone you know may benefit from this program, you can contact us to learn more or request an appointment today. Physical therapist Stephanie Johnson is now accepting new patients at our Huntersville location.
